چکیده

Given an edge-distance graph of a set of suppliers and clients, the bottleneck problem is to assign each client to a selected supplier minimizing their maximum distance. We introduce minimum quantity commitments to balance workloads of suppliers, provide the best possible approximation algorithm, and study its generalizations and specializations. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Capacity Inverse Minimum Cost Flow Problem under the Weighted Hamming Distances

Given an instance of the minimum cost flow problem, a version of the corresponding inverse problem, called the capacity inverse problem, is to modify the upper and lower bounds on arc flows as little as possible so that a given feasible flow becomes optimal to the modified minimum cost flow problem. The modifications can be measured by different distances. In this article, we consider the capac...

On the Selection and Assignment Problem with Minimum Quantity Commitments

The thesis studies a new constraint, named minimum quantity commitments, for the selection and assignment problem. It is motivated by the Royal Philips Electronics and a special stipulation of the US Federal Maritime Commission. Our work is expected to initiate the research on this novel constraint for the selection and assignment problem. We first classify all the special cases and prove their...

On Bottleneck Product Rate Variation Problem with Batching

The product rate variation problem minimizes the variation in the rate at which different models of a common base product are produced on the assembly lines with the assumption of negligible switch-over cost and unit processing time for each copy of each model. The assumption of significant setup and arbitrary processing times forces the problem to be a two phase problem. The first phase determ...

Solving Re-entrant No-wait Flexible Flowshop Scheduling Problem; Using the Bottleneck-based Heuristic and Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we study the re-entrant no-wait flexible flowshop scheduling problem with makespan minimization objective and then consider two parallel machines for each stage. The main characteristic of a re-entrant environment is that at least one job is likely to visit certain stages more than once during the process. The no-wait property describes a situation in which every job has its own ...
